About

Biography

My work brings together communication research, journalism, and writing, with an interest in how people and communities understand, negotiate, and respond to relations of power.

I am currently pursuing a PhD in Communication at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where I also serve as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and am affiliated with the Global Technology for Social Justice Lab (GloTech). My academic interests include race, memory, territory, cultural production, and the experiences of Black communities in Colombia and Latin America.

A sustained part of my trajectory has involved working with community-based organizations and territorial processes, particularly in Colombia’s Pacific region. At Universidad Icesi, my work with the Centro de Estudios Afrodiaspóricos (CEAF) connected research and editorial practice with Afro-diasporic knowledge production, and later with the Afro-Latin American Research Institute (ALARI) at Harvard University’s Hutchins Center.

Before beginning my doctoral studies, I worked across journalism, editorial practice, research, and communication strategy, including roles with EL TIEMPO, CoCrea, and projects connected to ALARI. I also write across journalistic, academic, and literary forms.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Universidad Icesi in Colombia.
